Local Taekowndo star Khyan Townsend has recently been selected to represent Australia at the ITF Taekwondo World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Khyan has quickly come up the ranks of the sport, winning many local and state competitions that he entered and won over the years. This includes two National Taekwondo Titles winning in both Melbourne in 2018 and winning in front of the home fans in Perth, 2019 before COVID hit and all the tournaments we halted. These results shown selectors that he was truly deserving to be selected for the Australian National team. He is a highly skilled athlete across the board, having also been selected in the East Fremantle Colts Football Team, and the Under 18 Fremantle Dockers Academy.
Away from sport, Khyan is the Head Boy at Nagle College. Family is important to him; with any spare moment he is helping his mum and his two younger sisters around the house.
The Josh Kennedy Foundation is proud to support Khyan to achieve his current and future goals as a part of the Sports Assistance Scholarship Program. The Foundation would like to thank Sandra Carr MLC, Lara Dolton MLA and its’ other partners of the foundation, the program, and the Mid West community for assisting young people to achieve their goals.
